Lance was born in Kansas City and lived there until he was four years old, when his family moved to Minnetonka, MN. Being raised in Minnesota was a wonderful experience for Lance; he looks back on those days with fond memories. After high school, he left Minnesota to attend The University of Kansas where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication studies. While in college, Lance worked at United Parcel Service as a part-time supervisor in UPS’s hub operations. Lance attributes much of his success to lessons he learned as a young supervisor working in that high-paced, high stress environment.
After graduating from KU, Lance continued to work for UPS as a full-time supervisor for the next four years, when he decided to try his hand at sales. After having success in the insurance industry, he decided that he would become his own boss and launched BenchMark KC, LLC in March of 2009. BenchMark was a company that primarily bought foreclosed homes, refurbished them, and rented them to Kansas City area families. Lance and his team also maintained and leased all the properties internally. Over the course of 40 months, BenchMark’s holdings went from 5 rental units to over 500.
The assets of the company were eventually sold to a private equity firm in late 2016. In 2013, Lance launched BenchMark’s sister company, Larson Building Company, which specialized in building architecturally distinct homes that lead the industry in energy efficiency. Larson Building Company won the Parade of Homes, Pick of the Parade Grand Award with the first home that the company built. Since that time, LBC has won the top award at the Parade of Homes in 4 of 5 entries and won runner up once. LBC has built dozens of completely custom single-family homes for families in Johnson County Kansas and the surrounding areas. The last Larson Building Company home will be completed in early 2021. After valuable experiences in the corporate world and two successful entrepreneurial ventures, Lance had an opportunity to go into business with his brother, Reid in 2018. Together, Lance and Reid founded ViaWealth, LLC and headquartered their firm in Leawood, KS. ViaWealth has another office in Minneapolis, MN and has plans to open other offices in the Midwest and beyond.
Lance is a Trustee of the David and Janis Larson Foundation and serves on the boards of multiple Non-Profits in the Kansas City and Minneapolis areas. He enjoys giving back to his community and teaching his children the importance and joy of giving back to the communities that you live and work in. Lance lives in Leawood, Kansas with his wife and 4 children. He and his family enjoy going to Lawrence to attend KU football and basketball games, Rock Chalk! Lance and his wife, Lauren LOVE to entertain and spend time with family and friends.
